Lot 2015 VERY FINE CASED TAKEDOWN MAUSER RIFLE BY J.

PETERLONGO. Cal. 9.5 x 60 (?). S# 48004 (Mauser Action # located on bottom of action when metal is out of wood & on back of magazine). The 24" one third octagon two thirds round ribbed barrel is fitted with one standing, one folding leaf rear sight and silver bead front in raised portion of rib. Right rear flat is engraved "Tyroler Waffenfabrik". "J. Peterlongo Innsbruck" is on left. Right rear of barrel is stamped with 1912 Ferlach nitro proofs. Barrel takes down with pivoting latch on metal plate in forend which engages recess in matching steel plate mounts on front of action. Commercial Mauser (S# 48004) large ring 98 action has correctly shaped bolt handle. Claw scope bases have been fitted. Bottom metal has lever removable floorplate and is fitted with early style Mauser double set triggers. Action and bottom metal are engraved with about 60% coverage nicely cut Vienna type scroll. Bolt knob is checkered in two panels. Thick horn capped pistol grip stock made of nicely veined European walnut measures 14" over 5/8" thick ribbed horn buttplate. Stock features shadow line right hand cheekpiece and point pattern checkering at grip. Forend is uncheckered, has horn tip and attaches to barrel with side bolt through steel escutcheons along with retaining screws through takedown plate. A silver oval on bottom of forend is engraved "GB". Rifle is mounted with Dr. W. Gerard Charlotteburg 2.5 X scope with crosshair reticle in Peterlongo marked claw rings engraved en suite with rifle. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: rifle is housed in what appears to be its original leather case with metal oval on top engraved "G.K." "Graz, Leechgasse 15". Interior is lined in brown cloth and has case maker's label in lid. Bottom compartment is French fitted for rifle and scope along with a cut glass bottle for cleaning fluid (?), as well as a three piece wooden cleaning rod. CONDITION: very fine. Barrel and action retaining about 95% original blue with a bit of high edge wear at normal gripping point on barrel and some case wear. Stock retains nearly all of its original glossy oil finish with a fair scattering of marks and scratches; heaviest on forend from attempts at removal. There is some worm damage to forend horn tip on right side and a few chews on grip cap. Bore is bright and shiny; strong rifling throughout. Mechanically good. Scope is also very fine; optically clear. Case is fine; leather has some stains. Interior cloth has some staining and rubs. Retaining strap for scope is detached.
